The first activity of the CIVINET Slovenia – Croatia – SEE network this year was held on January 19 and 20 in Rijeka. The focus of the workshop, which was attended by 57 members of the Network and other stakeholders from Croatia, Slovenia, BiH and Serbia, was on the legislative framework and sources of funding for the further development and implementation of sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMPs). The workshop was conducted as part of the CLIMASUM project.

On behalf of the organizers, at the beginning of the workshop, ODRAZ director Lidija Pavić-Rogošić and Srđan Škunca from the City of Rijeka welcomed all present. The participants of the workshop were then introduced to news about funding opportunities in Slovenia and Croatia, which were presented by Aljaž Plevnik from the Urban Institute of the Republic of Slovenia and Ina Topić from the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia.

The following presentations were held on the first day:

• Legislative framework and sources of financing – examples of BiH (Mila Knežević, GIZ – Open Regional Fund for Southeast Europe)
• Funding opportunities from the EIT (European Institute for Innovation and Technology) (Petra Grgasović, REGEA)

The afternoon part of the workshop, led by Aljaž Plevnik, was reserved for interaction and work in groups on the topic of the needs and possibilities of financing the creation and implementation of SUMPs. The groups discussed how cities can implement the creation of a new or review the existing SUMP (what are the motives and cost of creation, monitoring and evaluation) and the differences in the methodology of creation and their implementation.

The next day, we continued with the presentation of examples of the implementation of SUMPs in CIVINET’s cities:

  • Revision of SUMP of the city of Varaždin (Ante Klečina, University North)
  • SUMP of the City of Belgrade (Ognjen Todorović, City of Belgrade)
  • SUMP of the City of Podgorica for the period 2020-2025 (Lazarela Kalezić, Crna Gora)
  • Vedran Kirinčić from the Technical Faculty of Rijeka spoke about the energy transition of transport with a focus on examples in the field of electromobility from the EU and in the area of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County

The workshop was conducted as part of the CLIMASUM project.
