We participated in the final conference of the CIVITAS Fast Track project
The final conference of the CIVITAS Fast Track project was held in Budapest on May 16-17, 2023. Representatives of ODRAZ, the CIVINET Slo-Cro-SEE Secretariat, participated in the conference, presenting the Network with a short pitch as part of the Marketplace – Connect to the wider network section. After that, those interested could learn more about the future activities and plans of the Network, as well as explore the opportunities for future cooperation.
Fast Track project partners and other European stakeholders dealing with sustainable mobility gathered at the conference to exchange knowledge and experience gained during this project. Through several panel discussions, parallel workshops, lectures and a section presenting networks, projects and programs, the emphasis was on the acceleration of changes in mobility and innovations that lead to faster achievement of European climate goals. It was also about the conditions under which the local administration can become more agile in cooperation with key stakeholders, establish new partnerships and find adequate means to test the measures.
This was also an opportunity to present projects in which ODRAZ a lead partner or partner, namely Climasum, SMCNetZero and SPINE. Projects promote and improve sustainable mobility, sustainable mobility plans and public transport in our Network.
On the second day of the conference, study visits were organized to examples of good practice in mobility, where participants had the opportunity to see how Budapest connects public transport in a smart and innovative way with other (micro) forms of transport and with urban planning. In this way, Budapest’s response to current climate challenges and contribute to the achievement of ambitious European goals are accelerated.
The public bicycle system MOL Bubi, logistics solutions in the port of Budapest, the multimodal hub and the control center of the driverless M4 metro line are presented in more detail.
Along the way, we heard about the application of the bottom-up approach and integral urban planning in the Bartok quarter. There citizens have been successfully cooperating with the quarter administration for several years, and all stakeholders, from associations and citizens to entrepreneurs, are included in the dialogue. In addition, changes in the space in the district are a direct consequence of traffic solutions, so the speakers introduced us to the development of the district after the construction of the Freedom Bridge and the introduction of the tram and metro line, as well as the research they are currently conducting on cultural institutions and the offer in the district, which is also changing with new roads.
After that, we observed the multimodal hub in Budapest that connects tram lines, buses and the metro with the public bicycle system, and got acquainted with the plans to introduce electric charging stations in the city.
