Toolkit: How to organize public dialogue on mobility issues

This toolkit was prepared by ODRAZ within the project CIVITAS ELAN. One of the main goals of the project was to include citizens in sustainable mobility issues in Zagreb. Beside carefully chosen EU examples of urban mobility, there are also examples from Zagreb included.

The toolkit contains guidelines, suggestions and examples of good practice, which can be of help when planning and conducting activities around public dialogue. Positive experience with citizens and specific stakeholders in Zagreb are meant primarily for transport practitioners and decision makers, but it can also be of a great value to anyone interested in public dialogue around urban mobility.

There are several public participation examples shown in this toolkit:

  • Safety in public transport: dialogue with senior citizens and workshops on safer use of public transport, as well as using the new electronic PT system
  • Mobility in several Zagreb neighbourhoods: dialogue with citizens and representatives of local board committees;
  • Study of intermodal terminal in Zagreb: consultation with interested citizens and experts.

Benefits of the approach as shown in this toolkit in solving vital questions for the life of a city are numerous and we hope that the good practice of including the public will continue forth and also expand to other cities.
