Members of Group III Diversity Europe presented their activities in the EESC
On Friday, July 16 2021, Lidija Pavić-Rogošić from ODRAZ-Sustainable Community Development, Danko Relić from the Public Health Association Andrija Štampar and Svjetlana Marijon from the association Zamisli – members of Group III Diversity Europe presented their activities in the European Economic and Social Committee ( EESC). The event was held at the School of Public Health in Zagreb.
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has existed since the very beginning of what is now called the European Union – it was established in 1957 by the Treaty of Rome as an advisory body. The European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the Commission have an obligation to consult the EESC on many issues.
Lidija Pavić-Rogošić gave a presentation about the work of the EESC and explained its roles and tasks.
The meeting was in a hybrid form. Ten representatives of associations, Government Office for cooperation with NGOs, National Foundation for Civil Society Development, City of Zagreb and journalists attended the event. Some participated remotely – 15 interested representatives of associations, cities and universities from Rijeka and Osijek to Split and Dubrovnik.
The Committee reflects a huge range of different interests in society, as membership comes from three basic groups – employers, workers and organisations of various interests, which gathers representatives of organizations active in the social, economic, civic, environmental, cultural and other fields. The committee has 329 members from all 27 EU member states, with Croatia having nine members, three in each group.
