Strengthening capacities of ethnic minorities in Zagreb

ODRAZ designed a project during which interested members of the ethnic minorities in Zagreb acquired basic knowledge and skills for quality project writing and project management.

We noticed  that there is no training to strengthen the capacity of ethnic minorities in Zagreb, and that most of them do not participate in (quality) project writing trainings. . This is why  representatives of minorities often fail to find adequate additional funding sources.

Project beneficiaries
Direct beneficiaries of the project were members of the ethnic minority councils and representatives of associations of various minorities from Zagreb area. Indirect beneficiaries were other representatives of minorities.

What have we achieved?
Our trainings strengthened the competencies of ethnic minorities in Zagreb, by providing knowledge and skills for project thinking – from the idea to the quality project proposal. Also, participants gained the knowledge and skills related to the strategic planning of the organization. Having these skills, they will be more competitive and more effective in their work and advocacy as well as in representing  their communities. Also, attendees were working interactively on the strategic plan of their imaginary organization, which gave them the opportunity to go through all the stages of strategic planning.

Short-term changes – increasing number of ethnic minority representatives, who are now able to write quality projects.

Long-term changes will be made in the communities by implementing well-written projects, in accordance with the actual needs of the community, with attainable goals and realistic budgets.

Implementation

  • Within project “Upgrading capacities of Ethnic Minorities I”, which was implemented from 1 September 2010 to 31June 2011with three workshops on writing projects for 43 representatives of ethnic minorities conducted;
