Workshop “Innovative approach to sustainable mobility” successfully held in Maribor
The development of innovative solutions in urban mobility was the central topic of the workshop held on June 7, 2023 in Maribor. The emphasis was on an innovative approach to sustainable mobility and the preparation of innovation projects. The workshop was organized by ODRAZ (Secretariat of the CIVINET Slovenia-Croatia-SEE network) in cooperation with the City of Maribor and REGEA (EIT Urban Mobility).
The goals of the workshop were:
- acquaint the participants with the possibilities of financing projects with which innovative solutions can be tested or integrated into existing mobility systems;
- open communication between potential project partners for application to innovation calls;
- through interactive work in groups, form rough concepts of potential project proposals and instruct participants in the basic requirements of project preparation for the EIT Urban Mobility innovation call.
After the opening address of the Mayor of Maribor, the program began with the presentation of examples of sustainable urban mobility and investment projects in Maribor, presented by Dorotea Rebernik and Mateja Bitenc from the Municipality of Maribor.
Uroš Pivk from Ridango presented experiences in electromobility and Ridango’s smart solutions for e-vehicles. Petra Grgasović from REGEA spoke about the potential of innovations in sustainable mobility – why they are important, where to expect them and how to apply them in the local context. One of the possibilities is continuous work on testing innovative solutions through living labs.
As part of the pitch session, we supported the topic of the workshop with concrete examples of innovative ideas, solutions and services presented by representatives of seven innovative startups in the field of mobility from Croatia, Slovenia, Germany and Latvia:
- Bikademy, Croatia; Krešimir Herceg: Digital solution for the promotion of touristic cycling,
- Urban Monkeys, Germany: Irene Ternes; Innovative approach to tourism – related mobility,
- Gepek, Croatia; Carla Ferreri: Gepek solving problems of urban and rural delivery,
- DISPO MARKET, Slovenia; Nikola Balaban: Optimisation of logistics for freight transport service providers,
- SKV, Croatia ; Damir Vuksan: SED Station – modular and green PT stop for new passenger and freight mobility concepts,
The continuation of the workshop included interactive work in groups during which participants discussed the challenges they face in their cities and explored innovative ideas that can help solve them.
We spent the final part of the workshop walking around the city and visiting several locations in Maribor where various interesting innovations in mobility have been implemented: pedestrian zones and innovative pedestrian crossings, tactile markings for the blind and visually impaired, pedestrian-friendly traffic lights, conversion of parking spaces into public spaces, parklets, kiss&ride and similar.
The workshop was organized as part of the CLIMASUM project. The workshop was also attended by representatives of the CIVINET Czech-Slovak network who were on a study visit to Ljubljana and Maribor from June 6 to 8.
