Urban M project team from Zagreb visited colleagues in Birmingham
The City of Zagreb is a partner in Interreg’s Urban M project – Stimulating Innovation Through Collaborative Maker Spaces. On February 12 and 13, a project team from the City of Zagreb and ODRAZ external experts visited colleagues in Birmingham. They received feedback and comments from City of Birmingham’s representatives and project manager at Birmingham City University on the first draft of the Zagreb Incentive Action Plan and the development of maker spaces that are part of the Urban M project for each city / region involved in the project.
A visit to STEAMhouse was also organized, initiated by the Birmingham City University. STEAMhouse is a unique new space for innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration. Powered by Birmingham City University, free workshops and events allow you to share and develop your ideas with experts from many different backgrounds. Plus, they offer you co-working, co-making spaces, tech and grants to make your vision a reality.
As well as collaborating with fellow innovators, STEAMhouse members receive guidance from industry experts skilled in everything from manufacturing to marketing. People who’ve been there and done it – but want to help you do it differently.

ODRAZ, an associate of the City of Zagreb, is in charge of the process and drafting the action plan for the development of “maker spaces” and for gathering and linking the relevant stakeholders.
The first draft of the Action Plan for Zagreb was prepared and it was the main topic of discussion with representatives of the city of Birmingham and the City University of Birmingham. At the beginning, Lidija Pavić-Rogošić presented the process of drafting and the content of the first draft of the Action Plan: what it is meant to include; what is done in the process and cooperation with stakeholders; an overview of relevant national strategies and laws at the Zagreb level; identified challenges, with an emphasis on those that can be affected by the project; the purpose of the Action Plan and its activities and the steps that follow.
During two days of group work, we have confirmed that we are on the right track and we have some new ideas for future work.
