The conference with an emphasis on the exchange of experiences and good practices on sustainable urban mobility plans (SUMP) in small and medium-sized cities, which was held on April 5, 2024 in the newly opened Business Incubator in Velika Gorica, gathered about 80 participants from Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This event provided an opportunity for the exchange of ideas, experiences and examples of best practice among cities and municipalities from Slovenia, Croatia and Southeast Europe. The goal was to highlight challenges and opportunities in the field of sustainable mobility and traffic-spatial planning in urban areas.

The program began with the 11th assembly of the network for sustainable urban mobility CIVINET Slovenia-Croatia-Southeast Europe, during which the results of the Network for the past year and plans for the current year were presented, including the presentation of the Guidelines for the Network’s activities in 2024, in which highlighted key topics that the Network deals with this year.

The previous day, the bodies of the Network held their meetings: a joint meeting of the Administrative and Political Committees and a meeting of the Academic Committee.

The central part of the conference called “SUMP for small and medium-sized cities” was officially opened by Lidija Pavić-Rogošić, the director of ODRAZ, who acts as the network’s Secretariat.

SUMP, or Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, represents a strategic approach that seeks to improve mobility in cities in a sustainable way. The goal is to ensure better access to transportation, meet the increasingly complex needs of citizens for mobility, and improve the quality of life in urban areas and their surroundings.

Presentations at the conference covered a variety of topics, including concrete examples and practices in the field of sustainable urban mobility.
All presentations were accompanied by a rich moderated discussion that further deepened the topics and enabled the exchange of ideas and experiences. This approach ensures a rich and interactive experience for all participants, encouraging thinking about different aspects of sustainable urban mobility and their application in local communities.
