On April 21, 2023, the final conference of the project “Urban STEM – for the cities and communities of the future” was held at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb, where the results of the project and examples of good practice in informal education of children, youth and citizens about STEM were presented. ODRAZ was a partner in the project.

The purpose of the project “UrbanSTEM – for cities and communities of the future” was to increase the interest of young people in innovative research approaches of future students for STEM fields, with an emphasis on transport and energy. The project was implemented by the association DOOR in partnership with ODRAZ, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding and the Faculty of Transport Sciences of the University of Zagreb.

Through the development and implementation of workshops for young people, and participation in innovative workshops on the planning of cities of the future, interest and dedication to the development of science and technology projects in Croatia has increased. On the other hand, investing in knowledge and intensifying the intersectoral cooperation of CSOs with the academic sector will promote innovative models of public space planning and the use of new technologies for the wider population, i.e. citizens.

Through the successful cross-sector cooperation of civil society and the academic sector, citizens, especially young people and children, were brought closer to a new way of city planning with the aim of increasing the STEM approach to the problems of urban areas of the future.

Magdalena Makar presented ODRAZ’s activities in the project – interdisciplinary workshops and a summer school for students, as well as the “Imagine the City of the Future” workshops held in Zagreb kindergartens and primary and secondary schools.
