Green Transition for Sustainability
The manual Green Transition for Sustainability explains in an accessible way the key concepts of sustainable development, climate change and the green transition, while highlighting the important role of trade unions, educational institutions and workers in building a sustainable and socially just society.
The green transition is one of the key challenges of our time, as it involves a systematic change in the way we produce energy, use resources, organize work, and shape society. For trade unions, especially those active in the science and education sector, the green transition is not only a matter of environmental protection but also a question of justice, working conditions and the future of employees.
-The manual therefore emphasizes that the green transition does not come from the outside, but is a process in which we all participate. By acting faster, we can achieve better results, not only for the environment but also for workers, communities, and future generations.
The manual provides an overview of key topics related to sustainable development and climate change, including:
- the concept of sustainable development and its environmental, social, and economic dimensions
- the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and their practical application
- the challenges of climate change and measures for mitigation and adaptation
- the role of education, science, and innovation in the green transition
- the importance of a socially just transition that protects workers and communities
- the role of trade unions and social dialogue in shaping sustainable policies.
In the manual, the green transition is presented within the framework of sustainable development and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Through explanations, examples and practical messages, the publication offers answers to questions related to climate change and other relevant topics, while encouraging joint action, strengthening community resilience and developing solutions that connect environmental protection, social justice and long-term sustainability.
The manual was prepared by ODRAZ – Sustainable Community Development within the project #brževišebolje, which focuses on strengthening the capacities of trade unions in the field of science and education, developing new knowledge, networking and empowering social dialogue. The publisher of the publication is the Independent Union of Research and Higher Education Employees of Croatia.
