Leaps of knowledge – engaged community
The project “Leaps of knowledge – engaged community” The faculties and civil society organizations for the sustainable development of local communities, will enable the students of Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Graphic Arts University of Zagreb to acquire new knowledge and skills for community development by establishing a sustainable program of socially useful learning and cooperation with CSOs and between faculties. The project includes students and teachers from two faculties and 20 associations in which the method of socially useful learning at the eight courses will be implemented.
Through educational workshops, trainings and student work on specific tasks with mentoring support in associations wants to improve promotion and management in associations and increase social responsibility and contribute to community development.
_PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT
- to support and encourage cooperation between two higher education institutions (Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Graphic Arts University of Zagreb) and civil society organizations, primarily community-based associations, using a model of socially useful learning and direct involvement of students and professors in the work of associations;
- students and professors involved in the project will increase the sense of social responsibility and commitment to improving the quality of life in the community and society
_OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
To enable students from the Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Graphic Arts University of Zagreb to acquire new knowledge and skills for community development, to establish a sustainable program of socially useful learning and cooperation with CSOs and cooperation between faculties.
_SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
(1) Strengthen the professional capacities of the involved civil society organizations and university teachers from the Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Graphic Arts University of Zagreb to apply the method of socially useful learning.
- Education of Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Graphic Arts professors and CSOs representatives about the method of socially useful learning and its application along with three study visits to exchange examples of good practice.
(2) Applying the method of socially useful learning at the the Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Graphic Arts University of Zagreb
- Creating a modification of class courses that will include the method of socially useful learning in two faculties
- Creating plans for involving students in the work of CSOs.
- Implementing the method of socially useful learning in CSOs with mentoring support – 40 students included in the work of 20 associations.
(3) Strengthening the social responsibility of university teachers and students at the Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Graphic Arts University of Zagreb
- Educational workshops for acquiring additional knowledge and skills for strengthening social responsibility and developing new projects (Digital Communication and Advertising; Principles of Sustainable Development and Global Sustainable Development Goals; Cross-sectoral Cooperation and Good Governance; From idea to project)
- Visiting lectures at the faculties on the work of CSOs involved in the project.
_TARGET GROUPS
- Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business and Faculty of Graphic Arts University of Zagreb
- University teachers from eight courses
- Community-run CSOs that provide services to the general good or work on community development projects
_EXPECTED RESULTS
- eight professors and 15 NGO representatives educated about the method of socially useful learning and ways of applying it
- modified 8 curricula for applying the method of socially useful learning for eight courses at two faculties
- developed 20 plans for inclusion of students in the work of 20 CSOs
- 40 students involved in the work of 20 CSOs
- 8 educational workshops held with the aim of strengthening the social responsibility of the academic community
- 6 guest lectures held at the faculties about the work of the CSOs involved in the project
Total project value: 863.171,71 HRK
Duration: March 19, 2018 – March 18, 2020
Financing: The project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund (85% – 733.695,95 HRK) – “Support to the development of partnerships of civil society organizations and higher education institutions for the implementation of socially useful learning programs” and by State budget (Office for Cooperation with NGOs, 15% – 129.475,76 HRK)
