The second training block of the Academy of Sustainable Development was held as part of the Sustainable Truth project
On April 18 and 19, 2024, the second training program of the Academy of Sustainable Development was held in Zagreb as part of the Sustainable Truth project. The aim of the Academy is to contribute to the activation of teachers and partners in the development of competences, active participation and the disclosure of misinformation in the field of sustainable development.
The purpose of the Sustainable Truth project is to strengthen society’s resistance to misinformation by reducing the amount of misinformation, misinformation and fake news in the public space, strengthening information reliability and safety when consuming media content and using social networks, strengthening the quality of journalism and credible reporting, and strengthening media literacy.

After the presentation of the participants, a presentation on misinformation in the field of climate change was held. Participants were educated on why climate change is often the target of misinformation; what are the most common misinformation about climate change; examples of shaping public opinion and sources of misinformation, motivation and interest in their dissemination are described.
Climate misinformation is content that diminishes the understanding of the existence and/or impact of climate change, that is, the unequivocal human impact on climate change; misrepresents scientific data, including omission or selective selection of data, in order to undermine confidence in climate science, climate-focused institutions, experts and solutions; and falsely portrays certain activities as supporting the achievement of climate goals, while they actually contribute to climate change or contradict the scientific consensus on mitigation or adaptation to climate change.
The topic of the second day was social capital and good governance. It was explained which sectors are in society, how the public can participate and why intersectoral partnership is important for local development. Social capital is all activities, actions, individuals and groups that contribute to the development of the community through their own and joint actions and enrich the entire life of the community.
